Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)
(PG-13) 94 mins

I believe in my review of ‘Mean Girls’ I talked about the fact that there aren’t any quotes you’ll be reciting after the movie is over. ‘Austin Powers’ is quite the opposite. Aside from the obvious ones like “Do I make you horny baby?” or “Riiiiiiiight”, there are some memorable ones that I like to remember. “Look what you did to Mr. Bigglesworth!” “Danger’s my middle name.” “It's Dr. Evil, I didn't spend six years in Evil Medical School to be called "mister," thank you very much.”

Truly has a film never done more with a concept than ‘Austin Powers’ did with theirs. The basic underlying concept is a spoof of James Bond films. This concept alone works well, with scenes with Seth Green telling his Blofeldish father “I have a gun, I’ll go get it and we’ll shoot him together!” Or the assistant ‘random task’. Or how about ‘Alotta Fagina’?

However, the film does much more than that. Anyone unfamiliar with Bond flicks will be laughing heartily in every scene. Mike Myers propelled himself to superstardom with his performance of Austin Powers and Dr. Evil. And with such a clever script, how can you disagree? “ ‘Player has five.’ ‘I’ll stay.’ ‘I suggest you hit sir.’ ‘I also like to live dangerously.’” Haha. How awesome is that?
