Deliverance (1972)
(R) 109 mins

Bow dow dow-dow dow-dow dow-dow-dow. Doo doo doo-doo doo-doo doo-doo-doo. That's supposed to be Dueling Banjos, the theme of 'Deliverance.' Never has a classic tune been used so well to create a certain mood in a film. What is that mood exactly? Uh…that some hillbilly is waiting to kill them…or rape them….or something else really bad. The film gives a lot of suspenseful scenes, and makes you think twice before heading into the countryside for a canoe trip. It's a fun ride, but never seems to be more than just a collection of several good scenes, and doesn't really give a good climactic ending (Although it's tough to really ask for one in the circumstances). Altogether a memorable watch.
