Evolution (2001)

Didn’t I just see this movie a couple days ago? Bats? Hmmm…the stoic lead male, the *coughs* funny black guy, the *coughs again* hot chick, the idiot government agents? A creature that gets loose in a small town and has to be stopped? Yeah, come to think of it, I did. However, ‘Evolution’ attempts to give a comedic spin on the creature feature, but fails miserably. David Duchovny and Orlando Jones can be funny, but very much are not in this film. They are reduced to poor jokes about flatulence and the male anatomy. Sean William Scott can be very funny (remember Stifler?) but isn’t allowed to be the funny idiot we want him to be. However, for it’s credit, it’s not quite as bad ‘Bats,’ as it can actually shell out some money for decent special effects. However, in this day and age, that’s not exactly the feat it used to be.
What pissed me off the most you ask? Well, as I am a chemical engineer, I have to say that the method they use for defeating the monster is the STUPIDEST REASONING I’VE EVER SEEN IN ANY MOVIE! The only people who will actually believe such asinine ‘science’ are high school dropouts, meaning anyone who hasn’t taken BASIC chemistry. Right at that moment I realized what I must give this movie.
