In 2003, Fox cancelled the popular show, ‘Futurama.’ And every since then, I’ve been unable to get my Futurama fix. Except on Cartoon Network, which airs the show constantly during ‘Adult Swim.’ Oh, and also on Comedy Central. And the occasional repeat on Fox. So when I found out that there was a movie coming out, I was pretty excited.
If anyone has seen the show before, you know what to expect. Most of the jokes center around absurd science-fiction premises. It’s clever at times, but the success of the show relies heavily on this premise. So it comes as no surprise that a feature-length film at 88 minutes can get a bit tiresome at times. The pacing is constant throughout the entire film, and while it is funny, it gets… a bit tiresome. (Sorry to reuse the phrase, but it works so well!)
I also read that the four feature-length film releases (all straight to dvd) are going to be divided up into sixteen half-hour long episodes and broadcast on fox. I think the show would be better suited in that format.
