Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)
(PG-13) 120 mins

Okay so this is the second film in the ‘Hellboy’ saga. So why did the producers of the film decide to go with the Roman numerals instead of the regular numbers? Does that make it more epic or something? I dunno.

Anyways, I’ll admit I was intrigued with the setup. The first film in the series was fun to watch, if not incredibly exciting. Add into that a top-level director (Guillermo del Toro of ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’) and you have yourself a pretty highly anticipated film, worthy of a summer blockbuster release. Intriguing.

Having seen the film, it’s pretty much just that: a Hellboy film with an imaginative director. Hellboy gives his usual quips, and does his ass-kicking, and we see plenty of odd creatures we’d find somewhere in Middle Earth. So while the film never offers much more than that, I have to ask, what more do you want from a summer blockbuster film?
