The Karate Kid (1984)
(PG) 126 mins

“Wax on, wax off” Haha. Miyagi rules. The writers of ‘The Karate Kid’ took page out of ‘Star Wars’ and wrote a wise but unconventional role for a teacher. And it ends up being a role of a lifetime for Pat Morita, who was previously best known for being ‘Arnold’ on Happy Days. So now whenever he has any small role in film or television, people can yell ‘Hey! It’s Miyagi!’ whenever they see him.

Ralph Macchio on the other hand, doesn’t have the same sort of charm to him. We root for him and all, but he’s basically your standard teenage underdog. He has to learn karate to fight the bully and earn the respect of his girl. So you can guess what happens at the end. But I gotta admit, I’ve tried that crane kick a bunch of times. I really can’t do it. That guy is ridiculous.
