Vertigo (1958)

This is one of, if not the best Hitchcock flick Iíve seen. And Iím a huge Hitchcock fan so thatís saying a lot. Jimmy Stewart plays a man with vertigo (fear of heights) who lets someone fall off a rooftop as he is incapable of going after him. He is subsequently kicked off the force, and becomes a private detective. He is then hired to investigate the suicidal tendencies of a manís wife, only to fall in love with her. I donít want to give too much away, is this is a brilliantly written movie with a few good twists. I should mention that this movie is the origin of the slide-away shotÖyou know where the background zooms out but the foreground zooms in? Pretty cool camera trick if you ask me. Anyways, on top of all that, Jimmy Stewart gives (in my opinion) the performance of his career playing a borderline creepy, complicated man. I could go on and on, but Iíll just end it by adding that this is one of my favorite movies of all-time.
